Academic Writing Program
A formal writing program, which spans across the curriculum, is in place. Each student
develops a cumulative writing portfolio for four years.
Academic Assistance
Academic assistance and peer tutoring is available daily both in the morning before school
begins and in the afternoon after school ends. Students may be recommended for tutoring
by a teacher or counselor, or they may recommend themselves if they are having difficulty
in any class.
National Honor Society
Membership in the Holy Cross National Honor Society is recognized as the highest honor
bestowed on high school students. Sophomore, Junior and Senior students meeting the
criteria for membership are inducted into the society during the school year.
Diocesan College Scholarship Program
The Diocesan College Scholarship Program is designed for exceptional students enrolled
in the Diocesan Catholic school system who are in search of a challenging extension from
their high school environment. The program indicates a vote a confidence by the Catholic
colleges in secondary Catholic education. The Diocesan consortium is comprised of the
Catholic institutions, which provide education excellence rooted in the Catholic faith and
tradition. The institutions of higher education are College Misericordia, Dallas, King’s College,
Wilkes-Barre, Marywood University, and The University of Scranton, Scranton. Holy Cross
participates in this program.
The goal of the Diocesan College Scholarship Program is to provide Catholic high school
seniors the opportunity to participate in classes held at a local Catholic college/university
while simultaneously matriculating at the high school level. This provides an opportunity
for the high school senior to experience college, for the high school to expand its learning
environment and for the Catholic colleges and universities to strengthen their relationship
with the Diocese and to increase local student enrollment.
