The Religious Formation Program is threefold:
- To teach doctrine through a theology curriculum that fulfills the requirements by the
Diocese of Scranton.
- To build community through faith-filled formation programs and through participation
in the liturgical and sacramental life of the Church.
- To serve others through a Service Program that includes the school, parish and
community.
The Blessed Sacrament is reserved in the school chapel during the school year. Faculty and
students are invited daily to visit our Divine Lord, who will enlighten and strengthen them with
His gifts of wisdom and fortitude.
Mass is offered frequently so that all faculty members and students have the opportunity to
participate. Prayers will be said at the beginning and at the end of each class and each school day.
Each student will have the opportunity to spend time each year in spiritual recollection or retreat.
These days are arranged by the Director of Religious Formation and are an integral part of the
religion program. All students are required to participate in this retreat.
Students at Holy Cross High School are encouraged to become active members of their respective
parishes and to cooperate with their Pastors in every undertaking planned for the youth of the parish.
In doing so, the students will have an opportunity to prepare themselves for the intelligent Catholic
leadership of them in adult life.
Service
Twenty hours of Christian community service are required of all freshmen, sophomores and
juniors. Forty hours are required of all seniors.
